Rules

All Participants must be current CCSU students, faculty, or staff

All Participants must show a valid CCSU ID prior to each game

Participants can play on ONE team only

Equipment:

  1. RECentral will provide the official size kickball.

  2. Proper attire is mandatory (shorts, sweats, t-shirt, etc…)

  3. Participants may wear sneakers, or plastic studded cleats, no street shoes allowed.

  4. Teams are required to wear the same colored uniforms and must provide numbers on the back.

  5. Colored mesh shirts will be available. 

  6. Bases will be provided and be distanced approximately thirty feet apart.

Time:

  1. A regulation game will consist of seven innings or fifty minutes of play.

  2. After forty-five minutes no new innings will be played.  However, the current inning will continue until finished. 

  3. If a game is tied after seven innings and there is time left, another inning will be played.  If the game is tied after than extra inning, or after fifty minutes of play, the game will be scored as an official tie.

  4. Games may be called earlier due to Mercy rule or other factors.

Players:

  1. A regulation team will consist of eight players.

  2. Teams may not exceed twelve players on its roster.

  3. At least three female participants must be on the field at all times. 

  4. During a game the maximum number of defensive players will be eight, three of which are female.

  5. One defensive player will be designated as the pitcher.

  6. The defensive team is allowed to organize their outfield and infield in any manor in which they would like.  However, no defensive players can stand in front of the pitcher.

  7. All players present on a team may kick, even if they do not play defense.

  8.  Teams can play will a minimum of six player, three of which must be female. 

  9. A forfeit will be given to any team that can not produce at least six players to play, three of which are female.

  10. An unlimited amount of substitutions are allowed, as long as the official is notified. 

Game Rules:

  1. The home and away teams will be determined prior to the game.  The home team will be in the field first and kick second.

  2. The opposing team will provide a pitcher.

  3. Pitches must be relatively slow, smooth, straight pitches.  RECentral officials will determine if a pitcher should be replaced due to bad pitching.

  4. A team can change their pitcher any time during the game.

  5. An offensive player can start as far back from the plate to kick as they want.

  6. The kicker must wait for the ball to be approximately three feet from home base before they run to kick the ball.

  7. Bunting is not allowed, and will be called an out.

  8. Three fouls will be called an out.

  9. Teams are allowed to kick an unlimited amount of homeruns over the fence.  However, they are only allowed three in the park homeruns.  An in the park homerun will only be issued if the ball goes into the playing field of another game.

  10. A ground rule double will be issued if a ball bounces over the fence, or is lost behind any objects on the playing field.  It will be ruled a double if this occurs before the runner is ran past second base.  If they have passed second base, then they will be awarded a triple, but not a home run.

  11. A player will be called out if a defensive player has caught the ball, there was a force out at a base they were running to, if they were tagged with the ball, or if they were hit with the ball any where below the shoulders. 

  12. The defensive players can throw the ball at the offensive player running the bases.  If the hit in the head that player will remain safe and play will stop. 

  13. Leading and stealing is not allowed, and will be called an out if done so.

  14. The play will stop, and runners may not run once the ball is in the pitchers hands.

  15. The base runner is allowed an extra base on an overthrow.  An overthrow will only be considered if the ball goes out of bounds on any throw.  Out of bounds will be determined by which field the game is being played on.

  16. The kicking order is final and should never change during the game. 

Officiating:

  1. The Mercy Rule will be applied if a team is winning by fifteen runs after five innings.

  2. Trained RECentral officials will make the final decisions in all calls and or disputes of any kind.

  3.  Team captains should be the only participants talking with the referees.

*Remember, intramurals are recreational activities meant for friendly competition and fun for all participants.  RECentral employees attempt to make intramurals as enjoyable as possible, and expect that participants and spectators to do the same.
