Rules

  1. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE CURRENT CCSU STUDENTS OR MEMBERS OF THE FACULTY OR STAFF
  2. NO CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE CCSU SOCCER TEAMS ARE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN SOCCER INTRAMURALS
  3. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST SHOW A VALID CCSU ID PRIOR TO EACH GAME

Equipment:

  1. RECentral will provide an official size 5 soccer ball
  2. Proper soccer attire is mandatory (gym shorts, sweat pants, t-shirts, etc…)
  3. Turf shoes, sneakers, and rubber studded cleats are allowed. Street shoes, boots, sandals and metal cleats are NOT allowed.
  4. Teams should wear the same color shirts.
  5. Colored mesh shirts will be available in case of a conflict.
  6. Shin-pads are not mandatory but we recommend that they are worn.

Time:

  1. Games will consist of two twenty minute halves.
  2. The game clock will not stop during the game.
  3. Half time will last three minutes.
  4. If game is tied, a three minute over time will be played.
  5. There are no time outs.

Players:

  1. A regulation team consists of seven players, two of which are female.
  2. A minimum of five players can be used to start/finish a game.
  3. One player will be used as a goal keeper.
  4. If a team can not field five or more players, or two or more females, they will be forced to forfeit the game.
  5. An unlimited number of substitutions can be made during the game. Substitutions will be made during dead ball situations and with the permission of the referee.

Game Rules:

  1. Games will be seven vs. seven with at least two females on the field at all times. One player will be designated as the goalie. Teams are allowed to set up field players in any formation they want.
  2. Goalies are allowed to use their hands in the designated goalie box. Goalies are not allowed to punt or drop kick, they must either throw the ball or place it on the ground before kicking it.
  3. Goalies are allowed to pick up the ball if a player on their team passes it back to them with their feet or in any other way.
  4. Goalies are allowed to have the ball in their hands for no longer than six seconds.
  5. NO slide tackling!!! Slide tackling will result in an automatic penalty.
  6. Sliding to save the ball from going out of bounds or into the goal is allowed, as long as no contact with an opposing player.
  7. There will be no offside violations.
  8. Goal kicks will be awarded if the ball goes out of bounds behind the end-line by the opposing team. They will be taken five yards from the goal by any player.
  9. Corner kicks will be taken from the corners if the ball goes out of bounds behind the end-line by the defending team.
  10. Indirect Kicks (a kick that must be touched by one other person before going in the goal) will be awarded for: dangerous plays, a goalie handling the ball from a pass back, a goalie holding the ball for more than six seconds, on a free kick the player kicking it twice in a row, and slide tackling.
  11. Direct Kicks (a kick that can be shot into the goal without another player touching it) will be awarded for: Tripping, pushing, any other types of unruly physical contact, hand balls, and any other behaviors deemed by the referees.
  12. During free kicks, the opposing team must be at last ten yards from the ball.
  13. A Penalty kick is any direct kick foul located in the goal box. During this kick no other players are allowed in the box except for the goalie and the player taking the kick. The kick will be taken from ten yards away from the goal. The goalie must start on the line and can not leave the line until the ball is kicked. The kicker must wait for the referee’s whistle before kicking the ball.
  14. A goal will be awarded whenever the ball completely passes the goal line.
  15. The ball is out of bounds when the ball completely goes over the end-line or side-line.
  16. Throw ins will be awarded to any ball that goes out of bounds on the side – both feet must stay on the ground, both hands on the ball, and must completely go over your head and be released in front, in order for the throw-in to be legal.

Officiating:

  1. The home team will be designated prior to the match. They will have decision of getting the ball first, or picking which side to defend first.
  2. Fouls will be called based on the judgment of the referees.
  3. Only captains may speak to the referees during any disputes.
  4. Any type of physical fighting will end the game. Further actions will be determined by a RECentral supervisor. This could contain a forfeit for the team or teams, the banning of a team/s, or player/s from intramurals.
  • Remember, intramurals are a recreational activity meant for friendly competition and fun for all participants. RECentral employees attempt to make intramurals as enjoyable as possible, and expect that participants and spectators to do the same
