Intramural Handbook
Intramural programs are offered by RECentral in order to enhance the recreational life of all members of the Central Connecticut State University community. The success of this program is dependent on the effort and teamwork of staff workers and participants alike. We welcome all undergraduate and graduate students, along with staff and faculty, to join and aid in the enjoyment of RECentral Intramurals. It’s Time to Play!
Registration
- Rules and regulations for all intramural sports are available at either the RECentral Office located at Kaiser Hall room 039, or on the RECentral website, http://stdctr.ccsu.edu/recentral.
- Every team must fill out a Team Registration form and sign a Participation Assumption of Risk Form, before they will officially be added to the desired league.
- A team captain must be appointed to each team. They will be required to attend a captains’ meeting along with being held responsible for his/her teammates actions.
- All forms must be handed in by the final entry date and time. Late entries will be put on a waiting list and are not guaranteed a place in their desired league.
Eligibility
- All CCSU students, undergraduate, graduate, full time and part time, are eligible to participate.
- CCSU faculty and staff are also eligible.
- All participants must have an official CCSU issued Blue Chip Identification card with them at all times
- CCSU varsity athletes are not allowed to participate in an intramural sport in which they currently compete in for the university.
- Players are not permitted to transfer teams during a season or to play for more than one team in each offered sport.
- If a team carries a member that is ineligible for any reason, the team will be disqualified from the league in which they are participating, no matter if the season had started or not.
- If a player who is not on the official roster participates in any amount of time during a game, the team will forfeit the game and face possible disqualification from the league.
Captains
- Each team is required to have one team captain
- A captain’s meeting will be held before the season begins in order to discuss rules and regulations, schedules, and to answer any questions that may arise.
- If a captain can not attend the meeting, than a member of that team is required to attend. If a representative from the team does not attend than the team will be penalized and possibly replace by a team on the waiting list.
- Captains are responsible for the eligibility of players, informing teammates of the league rules and regulations, and for the actions of their team while intramurals are in session.
- A team captain is the only member of a team that should be addressing a RECentral official or supervisor due to any disputes.
- Captains also represent their team and RECentral intramurals, and are required to maintain a professional and respectful attitude and display a great degree of sportsmanship.
Sportsmanship
Good sportsmanship is expected and required by all participants, spectators, and employees. Intramurals are offered as an entertaining recreational activity for the campus to enjoy. Unfortunately, some teams and individuals lose sight of the original purpose of recreation and act inappropriately as well as unsportsmanlike. RECentral Officials have the right to end a game due to misconduct. Any type of infraction will be considered reason for displacement from intramurals and possible suspension from all recreational opportunities offered by RECentral. Good sportsmanship will be noticed and rewarded.
Schedules
Due to the lack of space and time RECentral has to operate, all schedules, when made, are final. Teams may not cancel their own games, however games may be cancelled due to inclement weather and or any other reasons that RECentral can not control. In the case of cancellations the team captains will be contacted by a RECentral supervisor. Schedules and standings will be posted on designated RECentral bulletin boards as well as the website. Copies are available upon request.
Level of Play
There will be different levels of competition in order to make more even playing fields. The levels may differ between intramurals, but will mainly follow the below format.
A League = You’re all that and a bag of chips
B League = You got skill but are a bit rusty
C League = You’re in it for the fun of the game
- Some leagues will not be offered due to the amount of RECentral resources.
Game Requirements
- All participants must show their CCSU ID in order to sign in prior to the game.
- You must have a CCSU ID to enter RECentral facilities, any intramural participant without one will not be allowed to enter the facility nor will they be allowed to play with their team.
- Teams should try to arrive ten minutes before the start of their game in order to sign in and take care of any conflicts.
- Captains should identify themselves to RECentral employees before the start of the game.
- Teams must show up on time, however, there is a five minute grace period, but after that, consequences will begin as stated in the rules and regulations of the individual sports.
- Teams should wear the same colored shirts in order to be distinguished. Some intramurals require specifics as stated in their rules and regulations. Pinnies will be available if necessary.
- Proper athletic attire is required, such as gym clothes and scuff proof sneakers. NO street clothes (jeans, shoes, high heels, boots, jackets, hats, etc). NO jewelry of any kind should be showing.
Infractions
Many infractions that occur during games are either accidental or minor, and at times are unavoidable. However, there are major infractions that go against the ideals of sportsmanship and jeopardize the legitimacy of RECentral’s mission of excellence. Major infractions can lead up to suspension of individuals and teams from all RECentral events.
- A participant who displays poor sportsmanship, especially towards an official, the other team, or their own team, will be immediately disqualified from the present contest.
- Any participant engaging in offensive language towards other participants, officials, spectators, etc., will immediately be disqualified from the present contest.
- Any participant who endangers the welfare of another person will be suspended from that specific program immediately and their next two scheduled contests.
- Any individual who flagrantly endangers the welfare of another person will be disqualified immediately and suspended from RECentral programs for the remainder of the year.
- In the case of any form of fighting, the CCSU Police Department will be called. In addition, all persons involved with immediately disqualified from all RECentral programs for the year.* RECentral supervisors determine if harsher penalties are justified to the specific infraction.
Alcohol and Drug Policy
All individuals, teams, and spectators, who arrive intoxicated, are suspected of consumption, or are in possession of paraphernalia at RECentral events will be subject to disqualification from all RECentral sponsored events, including, but not limited to, intramurals and open recreation, for an academic year. Individuals are also subject to harsher penalties depending on the specific violation. Refer to the CCSU Student Handbook for more information.
Medical Procedures
RECentral assumes no responsibility for injuries that occur during intramurals, special events, or open recreation. In order to participate in intramurals, individuals must sign the Participation Assumption of Risk. RECentral would like to remind participants that injuries do occur and safety is the number one priority during all events. In a case of major injuries the CCSU Police will be contacted in order to asses the situation. *Any individuals who are bleeding during an intramural contest will be prohibited from continuing play until proper measures are completed.
RECentral is always looking for new ideas and ways to improve. Please feel free to help us become the department that meets your needs.
