Rules
Equipment:
- RECentral will provide an official size basketball, men’s and women’s.
- Proper basketball attire is mandatory (gym shorts, sweat pants, t-shirts, etc…)
- No street shoes, must wear scuff-proof sneakers.
- Teams must wear the same color and provide numbers on the back.
- Colored mesh shirts will be available if needed.
Time:
- Games will consist of two twenty minute halves.
- The games will be on running time during all plays.
- The clock can only stop during the last two minutes of the second half. It will stop for all dead ball situations, according to the officials whistle.
- Half time will be no longer than four minutes.
- If a game is tied, a three minute over time will be played.
- Time outs will be no longer than thirty seconds in length.
Players:
- A regulation team consists of five players.
- A team roster may not exceed ten players.
- A minimum of four players can be used to start or finish a game.
- If a team can not field four or more players than they will be forced to forfeit the game, no matter at what point the loss of players occurs.
- An unlimited number of substitutions can be made during the game.
Game Rules:
- Points consist of two points for any basket that is not a free throw or a three pointer. Three pointers will be scored if shot is made from behind the three point arc. One point will be awarded for any free throw that is made.
- A jump ball will begin the game followed by a possession arrow afterwards.
- You have five seconds to inbound a basketball.
- A team has ten seconds to get the ball over the half court line.
- There will be no shot clock.
- Each team will have two thirty second time outs per game. One time out during over time if necessary.
- In the case of a tie following regulation play, a three minute overtime will be played. Only one overtime will be played. If it remains tied after the first overtime, then the game will be recorded as an official tie.
- A dead ball within the last two minutes of regulation will stop the clock at the officials whistle. A dead ball consists of any blown whistle, a foul occurs, the ball goes out of bounds, any time of violation occurs, a foul, and if the ball get’s lodged, and any other reason the official deems necessary.
- Time outs can only be called during a dead ball situation of if your team has the ball.
- Any player on the team can call a time out.
- Fouls will be called, including; personal, team, technical, and flagrant.
- Terms for ejection from a game due to fouls will be five personal fouls, and any technical or flagrant foul.
- Free throws will only be granted to a player if he is fouled and makes the shot, and if a technical or flagrant foul is called.
- A technical foul will give the other team two free throws and possession of the ball.
- A flagrant foul will give the other team four free throws and possession of the ball.
Officiating:
- Home and away teams will be determined by a coin toss prior to game.
- Fouls will be called based on judgmental calls by the RECentral official.
- Other violations will be called, such as traveling, double dribbling, and back court violations.
- A trained RECentral employee will be officiating the game as well as another employee keeping score.
- The game clock will start at the scheduled time whether or not both teams arrive on time.
- If a team does not have the minimum amount of four players within five minutes the other team will be awarded five points. If they do not have enough after ten minutes the other team will be awarded eight points. After twenty minutes only the second half will be played with the other team leading by fifteen points. If the team does not show up before the start of the second half, than they will be charged with a forfeit.
- Teams are allowed to keep a score book, but they are responsible for filling it out.
- Only the captains may speak to the officials over any disputes.
