Mosaic
Report

Unfortunately the Mosaic Lens Photography Contest was cancelled due to lack of
submissions. Events for the future include an Africa Showcase for October 8.
House
Committee
R. Bachoo spoke about campus security in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings
of a week ago. The University has been working on their emergency planning for
well over a year. He indicated that approximately $600,000 will be spent this
year on cameras and monitoring around the campus. A vulnerability survey was
completed; and they are working on cited issues, such as communication
technologies. He indicated that student contact information will be collected
starting next year so emergency notifications can be made with better contact.
The campus will be looking at how we deal with student / staff mental health
issues as well.
C. Zohlman indicated House Committee interest in pursuing digital signage as
part of our project for signage this fall. R. Bachoo mentioned that something
might be in the works on this but did not share details (time). There was also
some discussion about adding artwork to rooms in the Student Center. O. Mamed
indicated that this was something that the House Committee had done in the past
and that art from students and faculty had been acquired in the past, as well as
commissioned works (i.e., Generations Within).
Student
Services Committee Report
A. Taitague gave the report as chair for this area. Two Commuter Coffee
Programs took place in April. Approximately 50 – 70 students per day
participated and indicated informally that they appreciate the information
sharing and hospitality shown to commuters during these programs.
